Trivia knowledge - working project

The project is an installation, to be mounted on the wall, bringing together several different media, textures and image sources. The overall dimensions would be 2.50 m height, 8 m width, 0.5 m depth. The components are putted on different layers, created between the wall and the viewer.
The first layer is a large plastic sheet, transparent and wrinkled, that holds a drawing made in black marker. Its basic role is to insure that all the pieces of the work would be read with a common key.
3 paintings will be mounted on the plastic sheet: "Cousin Itten" (2011) and 2 small others that are yet to be produced. The new paintings are indicated in the 3D simulation with older, unavailable works, of similar style.
A clutter of manufactured objects (60 or so), colored in tones from white to red is sprawling from within the large painting, through its left. The last component is a photography, lambda print on dibond, with documentary appearance, if not for the main character that has many instances of self, pasted digitally in the scene. The image is from a peripheral neighborhood of Craiova, the city I live and work in.

 "Trivia knowledge", the supporting concept, refers to the pile of information we have come to process on a daily basis and to the fact that mundane reality is worthless in itself, without the imaginary reenactments, meant to help us to understand it.
Bearing nothing in common except several letters in their names, Johannes Itten and cousin Itt are a connection highly possible to be made by un uncensored mind in the contemporary age of rapid succession of thoughts and enormous data storage, this being an example of knowledge that leads to nothing, to ridiculous and useless conclusions.
The black and white nostalgia of 2 small paintings in oil is suitable to evoke parallel, fantastic worlds.
Tracing back to early photography with case studies of motion, the print on dibond also brings forward the concept of cloning, with anything but hi-tech background. The image is defined by the architecture of communist heritage. New realities overlap and the city is updated with color, by low-cost interventions made to rehabilitate housing units poorly conceived.  

For the manufactured objects I use the same materials used in thermal rehabilitation of buildings. This objects are inspired by Extrude, a Photoshop filter that elevates in blocks areas of an image. The effect is somehow similar with the representation of the western metropolis seen from above. I came to favor these objects, as I consider the contemporaneity of the modular formation, in its capability to dissolve or to condensate, to infiltrate through the most inaccessible niches, to stay mobile and to connect different things, placed far away from each other.
