I have in mind to put together a documentary material with the working stages I go through to finally obtain 2 personalized objects out of the chair seats that were assign to me. For the moment this is the first segment. Follow this link to get the full presentation of the project: www.veryimportantchair.com
My new video The Noise Turning the Sky Blue will be showcased on 15 February 2014, from 4-6 pm within The Gallery Project running at C-Space from 11 January - 1 March 2014.
The Gallery is an interactive multimedia project initiated by Chinese artist Wang Xin. Anyone who is interested in showing at The Gallery may submit their work and exhibition proposals would be realised on a first-come-first-serve basis. The idea for my application came to me after I read the statement of The Gallery Project, specifically from the practical aspect of the works submitted being destroyed after the exhibition. I correlated this with an art trivia: in 1972 Laszlo Toth gained international notoriety by vandalizing Michelangelo's Pietà statue. Initially I wanted to paint the portrait of this man on a mirror and send it to be exhibited, only to ask the organizers to destroy the painting with a hammer after the show and film their action. The point would have been the fact that I consider such involvement from their part to be of high artistic significance, maybe higher that my painting of the image would have had. However, due to the difficulties of putting this idea into practice, I had to reconsider and actually make a home-made video in which I perform myself the gesture of smashing the projected portrait, an action which I am coating with secondary, less important, details and atmosphere. For further information regarding this project, please visit the websites of C-Space or The Gallery While working, 2 categories of parallel materials came to my attention and I kept them in my archive. One is a temporary installation with a painting, that you can find under painting 2014. Secondly, there are these 2 black&white photographs I find interesting and will most likely include in a further development. Celeste Prize 2013, 5th Edition

I did this intervention with horseshoes in Craiova and it is somehow related with "flogging a dead horse" idiom - the futility of an action in which the outcome is already decided - that I came to learn years ago listening to this. I decided that the solo exhibition I am preparing will be titled "The Distance Itself". The distance is always the subject in my works and now the emphasis is on a peculiar self-awareness within this feature.
The project performs a reflexivity bouncing back and forth from the space to the explorer and this implies two circular relationships - first between the image and the artist, the second between the work of art and the viewer. In this short movie I am showing a new painting I am working at in my studio in relation with the actual place that inspire the work, situated somewhere peripheral to the town I live in - a former amusement park that transformed in this type of wild scenery after just couple years of abandonment. The work is a remake of another painting I did in 2011 - "To Heal a Wounded Surfer" - a painting based on the negative image cut from the right panel of Hieronymus Bosch's "The Garden of Earthly Delights"
- a drawing representing The Vacanti Mouse, a laboratory mouse that had what looked like a human ear grown on its back; the “ear” was actually an ear-shaped cartilage structure grown by seeding cow cartilage cells into a biodegradable ear-shaped mold; the earmouse, as it became known as, was created by Dr. Charles Vacanti, at the University of Massachusetts in 1995 NEW PRINTED PUBLICATION by Mind Set Art Center Taipei
